April 2016 - Disability Visibility (Nr Matlock, Derbyshire)

In a world that categorises, scrutinises, and uses disabled people, what happens when we define ourselves, on our own terms? How can we do that? This TBA retreat was a chance to gather in a supportive and accessible environment to explore disability, and the ways that disabled people (and our experiences) are both visible and invisible. We talked, listened, learnt, laughed, created, and just hung out together.

The retreat was disability focused but we welcomed anyone who wanted to learn and be in a safe supportive space whether they had a disability or not - that meant allies, friends, partners and personal assistants too, as well as disabled people themselves. We explored what disability meant to us, how it intersected with a trans identity and how we wanted to be represented and visible as trans and disabled people.
